Plan Highlights
United Healthcare Student Resources provides the 2024-25 Rider University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). The plan is ACA compliant and includes access to United Healthcare's National Network of PPO Providers. Students do not have to select a primary care physician and referrals are not required.
Before enrolling, we encourage students to explore and compare all available insurance options. The New Jersey State Marketplace Website provides information about the online marketplace where you can compare and purchase insurance plans. You may be eligible for a Subsidized Health Plan, which is a low- or no-cost insurance program for qualifying uninsured adults. If you have government-funded health insurance, please verify with your provider that you have coverage in New Jersey. If your coverage does not extend to New Jersey, consider purchasing the SHIP plan.
Rider University has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with eligibility, waiver, enrollment, and general benefit-related questions. Waiver and Enrollment
All full-time undergraduate and graduate students and all international students are required to have comprehensive health insurance coverage. You must WAIVE or ENROLL in the SHIP each academic year.
To waive or enroll in the student insurance plan:
- Log in to myRider portal
- Select the “Health Insurance waiver/enrollment” link in the “Personal Information” section (located on the bottom left)
- Under “Student Health Plan” select “Waiver Form” or “Enrollment Form” from the menu on the left
- Enter your student ID and DOB to access the form
- Enter all information and submit your form. You will receive an email confirmation when complete.
Waiver Process
Students covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan in the area surrounding the Rider University campus, can opt-out of the SHIP by completing the waiver form. Before waiving, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of the SHIP to your existing plan. If you do not submit a waiver form by the deadline above, you will be enrolled in the SHIP and responsible for the cost of the insurance plan.
Enrollment Process
Domestic students planning to use the student health insurance plan should complete the enrollment form to transfer their information to the insurance company. Domestic students will not appear active in the insurance company's claim system until after the deadline above unless an enrollment form is submitted. Students who do not submit a form by the deadline will be enrolled in the SHIP retroactive to the effective date of August 20, 2024. Please allow 7 days after you submit an enrollment form for your enrollment to be activated in the insurance company's database. International students will be automatically enrolled and do not need to complete an enrollment form.
Qualifying Event Enrollment
Students who waived the SHIP may qualify for special enrollment rights if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage. To request an enrollment form and premium quote, contact university health plans at 833-251-1146 or [email protected]. You must submit all qualifying event enrollment paperwork and documentation within 30 days of the qualifying event.
