Rider’s principal certificate program meets the educational requirements for this endorsement in New Jersey. Applicants must hold a valid provisional or standard New Jersey or equivalent out-of-state instructional, educational services or administrative certificate in order to be accepted into the program (eligibility also requires five years experience practicing under this certificate for principal certification eligibility at the time of nomination). The 300-hour clinical internship requirement for New Jersey’s principal certification is embedded in two of the principal concentration courses, if selected. Candidates must pass the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) Praxis and apply for their nomination for certification within one year of graduation of the program in order to be eligible.
We have not determined if our program meets the principal certification/endorsement requirements in states other than New Jersey. New Jersey is a member of the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement for administrators. NASDTEC provides information about requirements for each state. Requirements vary for each state and may include number of years of experience, GPA, State Approved Program, clinical experience, Praxis, among others.
