Rider University’s Master in Teacher Leadership program provides coursework required for the supervisor certificate of eligibility and teacher leadership endorsement in New Jersey. Students may opt for a concentration for the principal certificate as well. Applicants must hold a valid provisional or standard New Jersey or equivalent out-of-state instructional, educational services or administrative certificate in order to be accepted into the program (eligibility also requires four years experience practicing under this certificate for eligibility in teacher leadership, three years for supervisor, and five years for principal). The 300-hour clinical internship requirement for New Jersey’s principal certification is embedded in two of the principal concentration courses, if selected. Candidates must pass the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) Praxis and apply for their nomination within one year of graduation of the program in order to be eligible.
We have not determined if our program meets the teacher leader certification/endorsement requirements in states other than New Jersey. New Jersey is part of the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement for administrators. NASDTEC provides information about requirements for each state. State requirements vary for each state and may include number of years experience, GPA, State Approved Program, clinical experience, Praxis, among others. Students are advised to check with each state as to its requirements.
