Advancing knowledge of health care, health sciences, health policy and health administration

Ensuring access to quality health care is one of the greatest challenges we face as Americans and global citizens. It demands the skilled expertise and compassion of direct health care providers — and the knowledge and commitment of countless professionals in health-related enterprises in business, government, human services and beyond. Rider’s Health Studies Institute has been created to contribute to the social, economic, political and ethical considerations integral to achieving that goal.

Our Goals

Rider University’s Health Studies Institute brings together its diverse perspectives, expertise and leadership to impact regional, national and global health issues through education, innovation and outreach. Through this three-pronged approach, we hope to shape health care policy, enhance the practice and delivery of health care, and contribute to the improved health of all populations through education, advocacy and skilled direct care.

Our Structure

The Institute will serve as a center of excellence at Rider University, bringing together the multidisciplinary expertise of our talented and connected faculty in health-related fields in the disciplines of business, liberal arts and sciences, education, performing arts and continuing studies, and the resources and support of the greater University community.

Our Three Areas of Emphasis

Education:

Preparing a new generation of professionals.

Rider’s health-focused undergraduate and graduate programs encompass health care, health sciences, health policy and health administration, with degree, online and certificate options.

Courses feature an interdisciplinary framework that brings together the natural sciences, the social sciences, the humanities, business, education and the arts. With a dozen current programs and more on the horizon, Rider is expanding its efforts to meet the growing workforce demands for skilled health professionals in our county and state through relevant studies, outstanding instruction and meaningful hands-on experiences.

Innovation:

Analyzing critical issues with creativity and impact.

Our faculty and students are engaged in wide-ranging publicly- and privately-funded basic science and community-based research. Their innovative work is adding new knowledge to the study of health and value to our students’ learning outcomes.

Outreach:

Working with others to achieve better health.

We are forging new and expanded partnerships with our region’s hospitals, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, and nonprofit and governmental agencies. This outreach is providing vital direction on best practices, priorities and community needs in health — and essential internships, networking and community service opportunities for our students.

Events

Throughout the year, the Health Studies Institute sponsors lectures, workshops and conferences on timely and important health-related subjects that are open to students and faculty, health professionals and interested members of the general community. Presenters include members of Rider’s health studies faculty, accomplished alumni in the field, and leading area professionals.
