About Piano Academy
Piano Academy is a great opportunity for young pianists to focus on their piano and musicianship skills while at the same time making new friends! Conservatory faculty will teach small group piano lessons to piano students. At the beginning of the week, students will be assigned ensemble partners depending on their grade and level of advancement and appropriate repertoire will be selected for them to learn. Students will also enjoy specialty classes such as musicianship and jazz piano.
A mid-morning break time will allow the students to socialize and play outdoor games. They should bring a light snack and a water bottle with them to.
On the first day, your child will be asked to bring one polished solo piece that they have already been working on during this past year. Memorization is optional but they should bring the music with them. The students will perform their solo pieces for each other Monday morning.
Students will also have the opportunity to play for one another in an informal performance class, a master class, and in the final recital.
Prerequisites
Students must have completed at least 2 years of piano lessons and must be entering grades 3 through 7 in the fall of 2024.
A video recording is requested to properly select music that will benefit the level of all of the students participating in Piano Academy. The recording should be no more than 2-3 minutes and should include the student playing a brief sample of a recent piece they have been studying and one scale that they are comfortable playing. The video clip should be emailed to [email protected].
