InterFraternal Council

IFC chapters are among the oldest and largest inter/national men’s fraternities in the country. Memberships in these organizations include men who have been presidents, politicians, CEOs, sportsmen, artists, and more. IFC’s purpose is to advance fraternity on campus and provide interfraternal leadership to the entire community. The IFC strives to promote excellence in all aspects of fraternity life and academic pursuits. The Council works to achieve these goals through its committee structure focusing on an array of areas including chapter development, scholarship, community service, member education, and alumni and public relations.

The IFC at Rider consists of three social fraternities:

  • Sigma Phi Epsilon
  • Tau Kappa Epsilon
  • Theta Chi

Traditional Programs for IFC include:

Multicultural Greek Council

The MGC was formed in order meet the individual and collective needs of its member sororities and fraternities by promoting unity and coordinating programs, while cultivating the values of service leadership, brother/sisterhood, and scholarship.

The MGC serves as the umbrella organization for individual culturally-based Greek organizations at Rider University. The purpose of this council is to provide a space for Multicultural Greek students to participate in Fraternity & Sorority Life at Rider by striving to meet the needs of and highlight the uniqueness of these students. At Rider, these organizations are historically Latinx and seek to promote the interests of Latinx students on campus.

This council is aimed at creating an all-inclusive and culturally diverse environment, by fostering cultural awareness and upholding fraternal and sororal values. Each member organization of the MGC has a specific cultural basis, which is the defining quality of this council. Although each fraternity and sorority within the MGC has an individual cultural focus, none of the member organizations are culturally exclusive by any means.

The MGC at Rider consists of three historically Latinx organizations:

  • Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Inc.
  • Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.
  • Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc.

Traditional Programs for MGC include:

  • Meet The Greeks
  • Yard Show
  • Common Hour (in partnership with NPHC)
  • MGC 101
  • Events supporting Latinx students on campus

National Panhellenic Conference (NPC)

National Panhellenic Conference

The Panhellenic Association oversees the chapters of the National Panhellenic Conference recognized at Rider University. The mission of Panhellenic is to stand for service through the development of character inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life.

The NPC at Rider serves as the umbrella organization reserved for inter/national women’s sororities who belong to the national governing body. It is the world’s largest trade association specifically charged with advancing the sorority experience.

The member organizations of NPC seek to live their missions and values through their members heavily focusing on philanthropic causes and community service. From supporting victims of sexual assault, to leading bystander intervention programs, to fighting for body-positive campus cultures, sorority women are at the forefront of solving some of the most pressing challenges facing collegiate women today.

The NPC at Rider consists of four social sororities:

  • Alpha Xi Delta
  • Delta Phi Epsilon
  • Phi Sigma Sigma
  • Zeta Tau Alpha

Traditional Programs for NPC include:

  • Sweetheart Weekend
  • Formal Recruitment
  • Painting & Crafts Night
  • Sisterhood Bonding Nights
  • Programming for Circle of Sisterhood

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

National Pan Hellenic Council

The goal of this council is to unite as a single body under the ideals of sisterhood, brotherhood, scholarship and giving back to the community by providing service and educational opportunities.

The NPHC at Rider is the governing body for the “Divine Nine,” which consists of historically Black Greek organizations. Rider University is home to four of the Divine Nine. According to NPHC, each of the nine (9) NPHC organizations evolved during a period when African Americans were being denied essential rights and privileges afforded others. Racial isolation on predominantly white campuses and social barriers of class on all campuses created a need for African Americans to align themselves with other individuals sharing common goals and ideals.

With the realization of such a need, the African American (Black) Greek-lettered organization movement took on the personae of a haven and outlet, which could foster brotherhood and sisterhood in the pursuit to bring about social change through the development of social programs that would create positive change for Blacks and the country. Today the need remains the same.

The primary purpose and focus of NPHC member organizations remains community awareness and action through educational, economic, and cultural service activities.

The NPHC at Rider consists of four historically Black organizations:

  • Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
  • Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Traditional Programs for NPHC include:

  • Meet The Greeks
  • Yard Show
  • NPHC Week
  • Common Hour (in partnership with MGC)
  • Events supporting Black & Brown students on campus
