Rider University’s Mission for the Student Employment Program, housed within Career Development and Success, was formulated under the belief that educational advantages and increased knowledge are inherent when undertaking the responsibility of a student employment position. As the University welcomes students from throughout the region, across the nation, and around the world, we understand the importance of challenging our students with new experiences and new levels of accountability to cultivate extensive career and professional learning. In today’s modern society, experience is providing an unmatchable leverage to landing a full-time position post-graduation. Making connections and building networks in the work environment is stressed and has quantifiable advantages. The Student Employment Program prides itself on its commitment to students’ growth and development through unparalleled training and experiences that help foster a student’s transformation into the professional world.

At Rider, students can access an ample array of on-campus positions that align with their academic needs and career interests to develop skills applicable to the future professions of their choice. We prepare all Rider students to prosper professionally by increasing their focus on the following Twelve Student Employment Learning Outcomes:

  • Work Ethic / Professionalism
  • Adaptability / Flexibility
  • Time Management Organization
  • Verbal & Written Communication
  • Problem Solving / Critical Thinking
  • Innovation / Creativity
  • Customer Service
  • Team Work /Collaboration
  • Leadership / Community Building
  • Research Skills
  • Lab Skills
  • Technology

By striving toward these learning outcomes, which were built-upon and borrowed from the National Association of Colleges and Employers Career Readiness Competencies, Rider University students will engage their professional environment with confidence in their ability to make a meaningful change and provide an exceptional benefit for the greater good. Career Development and Success, through the Mission of the Student Employment Program, supports the RIDER PROMISE.

The Rider PROMISE is offered as a representation of the mission. It is inspired by our recent 150th anniversary which embraced the tagline, Fulfilling the Promise. This tagline was, in turn, inspired by Andrew J. Rider himself, as discussed in the historical books written by Dr. Walter A. Brower ’48, former Dean of the School of Education. Andrew J. Rider declared in 1883 that Rider's future was full of promise.

Perspective job seekers, new and returning student workers/graduate assistants, and hiring departments/supervisors can review the Student Employment Handbook for more detailed information regarding Rider's Student Employment Program's mission, polices, and procedures.
