As employers continue to drastically shift their operations to adapt to ongoing challenges, employees have started to re-think where they work and what they want out of their jobs. For many, it has resulted in “the great resignation,” a phrase used to describe the millions who have left their positions amid the pandemic in pursuit of more fulfilling work.
Recently, LinkedIn compiled a list of jobs across the U.S. that are projected to grow in demand in 2022 and beyond. The career and networking giant built this list based on job titles experiencing the highest growth rates from January 2017 through July 2021.

Careers for the future
Vaccine specialist
- What does a vaccine specialist do?: The demand for healthcare workers continues to surge. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects healthcare occupations to grow 16% from 2020 to 2030 which is much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 2.6 million new jobs, of them, vaccine specialists. A vaccine specialist manages or supports functions around vaccine education, distribution, operations and sales. These professionals work with non-profit organizations, in hospitals or health centers or state or government offices.
- Salary range: $87,998-$124,000 (according to payscale.com).
- How to prepare: Interested applicants should have a background in healthcare, medicine or science. Rider’s health and wellness programs provide the classroom knowledge and hands-on opportunities to complete research, fieldwork and other valuable experiential learning opportunities. After graduation, students can enter the field to explore several clinical and non-clinical health care opportunities or advance their knowledge by attending graduate school in health-related fields.
Specific programs of study with coursework that can provide the foundation for a career as a vaccine specialist include health sciences and allied health studies.
Diversity, equity and inclusion manager
- What does a DEI manager do?: As companies continue to prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace to improve company culture and values, strategic-minded individuals are needed to lead the charge. A DEI manager works with an organization to design, implement and support ongoing efforts and strategies related to DEI within a range of industries.
- Salary range: $60,000-$145,000 (according to LinkedIn)
- How to prepare: Rider’s bachelor's degree in organizational psychology explores how management and psychology intersect to help students develop an in-depth understanding of human behavior, group dynamics and how to make employees and organizations function at their best. Program coursework that serves as strong preparation for work in the DEI space includes "Managing Workforce Diversity," "Employee Engagement" and "Team Management."
Customer marketing manager
- What does a customer marketing manager do?: A customer marketing manager serves as a liaison between sales and marketing. They help companies to develop programs and strategies to increase client engagement and customer retention.
- Salary range: $89,900-$154,000 (according to LinkedIn)
- How to prepare: Typically, customer marketing managers possess skills that range from marketing strategy, competitive analysis and project management. Rider’s online Bachelor of Science in Business Administration provides students with foundational business knowledge that can be applied to sales or marketing.
An additional study option is a B.S.B.A in marketing that will help students to develop a critical understanding of business, consumer behavior and how to reach target audiences. The program’s five tracks offer students the opportunity to tailor their curriculum to align with their career goals.
Business systems administrator
- What does a business system administrator do?: A business system administrator (also titled a computer system analyst, IT specialist, or security administrator) is responsible for installing and maintaining an organization’s hardware and software systems.
- Salary range: $52,400-$110,000 (according to LinkedIn)
- How to prepare: Rider’s bachelor's program in cybersecurity prepares students to enter careers designing, implementing and maintaining security systems to ensure that an organization's data, software, systems and networks are kept secure and operational. In addition, our bachelor’s degree in information systems combines coursework in computer technology and business to teach students how to use technology practically within a business environment.
Financial planner
- What does a financial planner do?: A financial planner works with companies to create budgets, forecasts and business analyses, often bridging the gap between business and technology. Financial planners can begin in management level roles in finance or accounting and advance to chief financial officer (CFO) or head financial planner.
- Salary range: $42,000 - $101,000 (according to payscale.com)
- How to prepare: Rider’s AACSB-accredited Norm Brodsky College of Business offers a variety of majors, minors and certificate options that prepare students to become well-rounded business professionals. Potential areas of study that will directly prepare you to become a financial planner, or to explore related job opportunities in business, include business administration, accounting, and finance.
