Meet the 2015-2016 Accounting Society Officers
The Accounting Society is an organization for the students run by students. Under the direction of faculty advisor Maria Sanchez, the Accounting Society gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional and community service events, and network with accounting and finance professionals. In the past, the Accounting Society has invited professionals from the “Big 4”, Johnson & Johnson, and various mid-size/regional firms. The Executive board for the 2015-2016 academic year is as follows:
Hunter Krol ’17, President
Major: Accounting
Apart from being President for the Accounting Society, outside the classroom Hunter is also an active member of Beta Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Omega, Beta Gamma SIgma, a University Tour Guide and student supervisor for Public Safety. Starting next spring, he will begin a Co-Op with Wilkin & Guttenplan. After graduating with his Bachelors in May 2017, he plans to continue his education at Rider and pursue the Masters of Accountancy degree with a concentration in Fraud and Business Forensics in 2018. He hopes to work in public accounting and plans to obtain certifications as a CPA and CMA. In his free time Hunter enjoys biking, hiking and relaxing with friends.
Allison Kern ’17, Vice President
Major: Accounting
Concentration: Fraud and Business Forensics
Aside from being Vice President of the Accounting Society, Allison is also the Chief Financial Officer of the Residence Hall Association and a Senator for Student Government Association, along with being a Freshman Peer Mentor and holding two on-campus jobs. Allison is also a part of Alpha Lambda Delta and pledging Beta Alpha Psi. She will be interning with Wilkin & Guttenplan this summer. After she graduates she plans to stay for the 5th year and pursue the Masters of Accountancy degree, as well as obtain her CPA license.
Breanna Ciberey ’17, Treasurer
Major: Accounting
Minor: Psychology
Business Honors Program
Breanna is currently working full time at Johnson & Johnson with a tax co-op. This experience has been very eye-opening and has provided her with great exposure to the corporate world. in addition to getting real world experience, J&J has also assisted in widening her interests and introducing her to not only the interesting world of tax, but to the growing field of Global Supply Chain. Throughout her time at RIder, Breanna has been involved with many different clubs and organizations that allow her to both strive toward her own personal goals and aspirations, as well as enjoy some of her personal interests such as playing soccer/skiing. She is grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful networking and educational program like the Accounting Society. With that said, Breanna is also involved with other professional organizations such as DAARSTOC and Leadership Development Program who she creates much of her success this far to. Breanna looks forward to studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain next Fall 2016 and submersing herself into the spanish culture.
Joseph Gant ’18, Secretary
Majors: Accounting and Finance
As a hardworking and well organized member, he believes that he fits his position as Accounting Society Secretary extremely well. Being active on campus, Joe is involved in club volleyball, is treasurer of club gold as well as a tour guide for Rider. He likes hanging out with his friends in his free time and is currently planning to acquire a leadership development role or internship with a public firm in the spring/summer of 2016.
Melissa Lauria ’16, Community Service
Master Degree: Master of Accountancy
Concentration: Information Systems
Melissa is a graduate student in the Master of Accountancy Program with a concentration in Information Systems. Melissa is currently serving as the Community Service Officer for Accounting Society and Beta Alpha Psi. In addition to being involved on campus she has been involved in multiple internships in accounting, including Ernst & Young, where she will start full time upon completing her Masters. She is excited to be part of the Executive Board and looks forward to an exciting academic year.
Abigail Moore ’17, Public Relations
Major: Accounting
Concentration: Fraud and Business Forensics
Minor: Spanish
Other than being the Public Relations Chair, Abbie is the New Member Educator for Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, the Chief Financial Officer of the Ziegler Moore Residence Hall Association, and a Baccalaureate Honors Program Peer Mentor. After graduating from RIder University, Abbie plans on continuing her education in the Masters of Accountancy program and working towards getting her CPA. During the summer of 2015, she completed an internship at the Internal Revenue Service- Criminal Investigation Division in the Philadelphia Field Office. Abbie loves spending time with her friends and playing with her dog.
Samorri Johnson ’16, Recruitment
Major: Accounting
Samorri is a senior accounting major that chose the accounting profession for its various career opportunities and job security. Samorri enjoys gaining new experiences and networking with people from all different facets of life. Apart from holding the Recruitment Chair position in the Accounting Society, Samorri is involved in many other clubs and organizations such as the Institute of Management Accountants and the Leadership Development Program. He also has experience in both the private and public sectors of accounting ranging from a Co-Op with Johnson & Johnson to two summer internships with PwC. Samorri is eager to get out into the working world, but first he plans to obtain 150 credit hours, in the Masters of Accountancy program at Rider University so that he is qualified to sit for the CPA exam in 2017.
