Welcome to Rider!
New Student Orientation introduces new students and their families to life as a Rider Bronc and prepares them for the transition to Rider. This summer, we look forward to welcoming you and sharing what’s in store during our exciting hybrid orientation experience.
Orientation will be a fun-filled and informative event that also includes opportunities for students to get social by attending optional on-campus activities that will allow them to interact with fellow classmates and get acquainted with our vibrant campus community.
Important next steps:
Most new students are required to take at least one placement test in order to appropriately place you in fall classes. Placement testing will be administered online through Canvas, Rider’s Learning Management System. All placement testing must be completed by June 19 in order to receive your fall schedule in July.
If you are required to take a math placement test, you will be notified via Rider email on June 1.
The Foreign Language Placement Test will be available starting June 1. All College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, College of Education & Human Services and Westminster College of the Arts students are required to take a foreign language as part of their general education curriculum and students in the Norm Brodsky College of Business are strongly encouraged to do so. Students who have previously studied a foreign language and are interested in continuing the same language are encouraged to take a class this fall to maintain proficiency.
All new Westminster Choir College undergraduate students are required to take Music Theory and Piano placement tests during the Westminster Welcome. Also, a choral hearing will need to be completed during the Westminster Program. Information regarding placement tests can be found on the Westminster Undergraduate Placement Test Information page.
Parents and family members of incoming Broncs are invited to participate in a Virtual Orientation designed to meet their needs. This webpage includes videos and presentations to prepare your family for your student's transition to college. Be sure to sign up for question and answer sessions with Rider administrators by following the link at the bottom of the page.
Orientation will be held online. On June 14, you will receive an email, sent to your Rider email address, letting you know that you have been enrolled in the Virtual Orientation Canvas course. Once you accept the course invitation, you will have access to all of the orientation information and modules you must complete as a new student.
Several live sessions with campus administrators, staff and faculty are offered to supplement your Virtual Orientation experience. An updated listing of these sessions will be posted to https://linktr.ee/riderorientation and you can register in advance to receive reminders about upcoming sessions.
All new students are expected to complete the required components of Virtual Orientation by June 28. Please refer to the main page of the virtual orientation for a list of requirements.
Fall Course Schedule
New Broncs will receive their fall schedule during late July or early August. Your Academic Dean’s Office will contact you once your completed schedule is available. You will not have to register for courses yourself as your Academic Coordinator will be placing you in the appropriate classes based on your major and placement test results. If adjustments are needed, your Academic Coordinator will be available to meet with you.
If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]. We can’t wait to welcome you!
