What is a Big Idea Module?
District Design Teams of three teachers (one elementary, one middle school, and one high school), one district curriculum administrator, and a university/industry scientist or mathematician design and present 6-hour Big Idea Modules (BIMs) that trace a big idea across the elementary, middle, and high school grade levels.
BIMs:
- Engages participants in using exemplary curricula to experience the big idea at the elementary, middle and high school levels
- Teaches science and mathematics content
- Models the inquiry approach to teaching and learning
- Makes connections: between grade levels; to other big ideas; and to other disciplines
