Rider offers medical plan options that are underwritten by Aetna.
Employee contributions are based on coverage selected and salary. Rates are in effect for 12 months and are set each January. Coverage is effective the first of the month following one full month of employment.
Group term insurance is provided equal in value to two times the annual base salary. Coverage is effective the first of the month following one full month of employment. Premium costs are paid by the University.
Employees may elect dental insurance through the Aetna dental plan. Employees are responsible for the full premium. Plan summaries are for each of the plans are listed below.
Employees and their dependents may attend undergraduate classes at Rider without payment of tuition. Employees may attend graduate courses at Rider exempt from tuition cost. Dependents may attend graduate courses exempt from one-half of tuition costs.
You are covered in the event you become disabled or die due to a work related illness or injury. In the case of disability you will receive medical coverage and wages for time lost from work. Payment amounts are determined under guidelines set forth by the New Jersey Compensation, Rating and Inspection Bureau as established by New Jersey State statutes. Rider pays the full cost of this benefit.
State of New Jersey provides up to twelve weeks of benefit payment to care for a newborn or sick family member. The State requires that this program be financed by employee contributions.
Short-term disability is effective upon date of hire and provides weekly benefits of two-thirds of salary payable for up to 26 weeks for an accident or illness that is not job related. The maximum weekly benefit is set by the State of New Jersey each year. You and Rider share in the cost of this benefit. Salary continuation is also provided based on length of service at the time of the onset of disability.
If approved by the vendor, benefits of two-thirds monthly salary are payable after six months of disability based on a schedule and your age when you become disabled. Premiums are paid by the University and coverage is effective after one year of employment or upon first of month after date of hire if the employee had coverage with a previous employer within the three months prior to hire.
Rider sponsors a defined-contribution retirement plan with Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA) as the record keeper. All full time employees are eligible to participate on the date of hire. Eligible employees must contribute a minimum of 2.5% in order to participate, and the University provides a 2.5% contribution for each participant. Employee contributions are fully vested immediately and employer contributions are fully vested after completing one year of service. The contributions may be directed to investment options offered by TIAA and other approved vendors by the University. Supplemental Retirement Annuities, which have certain flexible provisions, are also available. In the event you become totally disabled and are enrolled in the plan, the University will continue a 10% contribution to your annuity contracts.
Flexible spending reimbursement accounts may be established for medical and/or dependent care expenses. Contributions are made by salary reduction and reimbursements are not taxed.
Employees accrue twenty vacation days per year. The cap on the amount of vacation accrual is 1.33 times the annual accrual or a maximum of 200 hours. Employees shall be entitled to nine scheduled holidays and two floating holidays per year.
