While an undergraduate, Ashley’s potential career path kept changing. But she never saw this as a hurdle. If anything, the changes just helped her gain more experience. Her almost double majoring in sociology led to a minor in the subject and provided her with knowledge that she takes into her professional career everyday.
With strong connections and real-world experience, Ashley has taken her experiences from Rider and puts that expertise into further expanding her career.
Growing up in East Windsor, NJ, Ashley chose Rider because it was close to home. From her first visit to campus, she was certain that Rider was the perfect place for pursuing her undergraduate degree. She was impressed with the University’s smaller class sizes and tight-knit community, and felt that it could lead to positive relationships with professors and ensure close relationships with peers.
"Smaller classes meant I could work more closely with my professors and get additional one on one time with them for help or to answer any questions. A small school to me also meant tighter knit friendships, which was important for me to have. Rider is also extremely accommodating to individuals with disabilities, which is another reason why I chose to come here!," says Ashley.
Rider gave me the confidence to feel comfortable changing my career path and always pushed me to work hard to achieve my goals.”
As a Rider student, Ashley gained hands-on experience through the campus television station, Rider University Network (RUN) and as a reporter for the Rider University News. She also completed internships as a video editor and producer at TerraCycle in Trenton, NJ and as a video editor for a small production company in Levittown, PA.
While earning her film degree, Ashley's advisors encouraged her to explore her interests by minoring in sociology. "I'm grateful for studying sociology in college because it's helped me with my career now in human services," she says.
After graduation, Ashley found her niche in marketing for an autism non-profit where she uses her video production skills to create social media content. Ashley says that the lessons she learned at Rider helped her thrive as a marketer: "My time at Rider taught me to work hard and never give up."
In her role as a marketing specialist for Bancroft, a leading service-provider for children and adults with developmental disabilities, Ashley manages the organization's social media accounts, creates social strategies and develops marketing content. Aside from social media management, she also assists with marketing events, content creation and collaboration with other departments, and engagement tracking. "Rider had a huge impact on my career," says Ashley. "My advice would be to do what makes you happy and do what you love; your path will take you where you want to go."
