Student Cafe Executive Officer will earn wages and academic credit while leading an exclusively student-run cafe
Rider University and Saxbys have formed a partnership to introduce an exclusively student-run cafe to campus in the fall. The student-centric cafe will be located in Sweigart Hall, home to Rider’s Norm Brodsky College of Business, and run via The Saxbys Experiential Learning Platform.
Each semester, Saxbys, a Certified B Corporation and coffee company headquartered in Philadelphia, will employ an undergraduate student as a Student Cafe Executive Officer (Student CEO). The Student CEO will run and manage all aspects of the cafe including team development and community outreach initiatives, as well as managing the cafe’s profit and loss statement.
In addition to earning a competitive wage and bonuses, the Student CEO will also receive a full semester of college credit throughout their tenure. This one-of-a-kind opportunity allows for students to develop business and leadership skills outside of the classroom.
“This partnership is tailor-made to provide the kind of engaged learning experiences we prioritize for our students,” says Rider President Gregory G. Dell’Omo, Ph.D.
The new cafe is part of a network of Saxbys’ pioneering Experiential Learning Platform holding residence in institutions like Penn State, Temple and Bowie State universities. The platform is designed to empower the next generation of changemakers to experience the future of business through a living, breathing B Corp and entrepreneurial lab on campus.
“The natural synergy between Saxbys and Rider was apparent the moment I stepped onto campus,” says Saxbys Founder and CEO Nick Bayer. “President Dell’Omo’s commitment to engaged learning dovetails perfectly with our Experiential Learning Platform.”
The move was facilitated by New Jersey-based Gourmet Dining, Rider’s on-campus dining service provider, and is part of the multiple engaged learning programs that Gourmet continues to initiate on campus.
“Gourmet Dining is a huge advocate of engaged learning and serving the community,” says Anthony Frungillo, executive vice president of Gourmet Dining. “It is our goal to bring together great partners that can mutually benefit each other. In this case, Saxbys and Rider were a perfect fit.”
Saxbys and Rider look forward to announcing the inaugural Student Cafe Executive Officer who will lead the new cafe expected to open this fall.
