Work is part of a broad portfolio of enhancements around the University
As the spring semester nears conclusion, five Rider University residence halls are undergoing or are scheduled for major renovations.
“We are excited to unveil the changes, and know the students living in these residences halls will appreciate the upgrades and amenities,” says Vice President of Facilities and University Operations Michael Reca, who is spearheading the projects.
Gee Hall, which houses 124 students in traditional doubles and pod apartments will open again to students in September 2017 with completely renovated interior spaces. The paint, flooring, carpet and lighting has been revamped in common areas and student rooms. All bathrooms were gutted and given new tile, sinks, showers, lighting and fixtures.
The entire building has been rewired with a new transformer and additional outlets in every room to accommodate the many electronic devices students now require. In addition, each room will now have its own heating and cooling unit that is individually controlled.
By September 2017, the Hill and Ziegler residence halls, which house close to 325 students total, will get similar electrical upgrades with additional outlets and new window unit air conditioners.
Finally, the Wright and Ridge House residences, which accommodate more than 150 students, will get a similar renovation to Gee with new individual heating and air conditioning units, power upgrades and outlets along with fully renovated bathrooms. These halls will be closed for the 2017-2018 school year during the renovation period, and will be open again to students in September 2018.
Other improvements scheduled for the upcoming year include enhancements in the Science and Technology building and the completion of the dance studio in the Bart Luedeke Center.
In addition to the residence hall upgrades, this year the Office of Information Technologies expanded the wireless network in classrooms and outdoor areas, launched virtual computer lab access for instruction, upgraded the technology in classrooms and labs, and launched new course selection and faculty advising tools. In the upcoming year, wireless access will be expanded in many buildings including the Student Recreation Center, Bart Luedeke Center and Alumni Gym.
