Rider University has been a proud partner of Campus Race to Zero Waste (Formerly Recyclemania) since 2008. It is an eight week competition in which Rider competes on a national level against other colleges and universities to increase campus recycling and increase solid waste diversion from landfills! This competition runs annually starting in February and March.
Campus Race to Zero Waste was developed as a competition & benchmarking tool for the promotion of waste reduction. Over the eight-week competition, each school reports the amount of recycling & trash collected on their campus weekly. Through weekly reporting, schools are ranked in a variety of categories. These categories include: most recycling per capita, best recycling rate as a percentage of total waste, and least amount of generated total waste.
Weekly waste stream focuses during the competition are as follows:
- Plastic & Glass
- Paper & Cardboard
- Aluminum & Metals
- Food & Organics
- Electronic Waste
- Recycling at Rider & at Home
- History of Recycling
