Internship Scholarship Program

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Internship Scholarship Program provides funds each year of up to $400 for CAS undergraduate students who need financial help when performing an unpaid internship for credit. 

It is anticipated that approximately 10 to 15 awards will be made annually. Applications can be received at any time during the academic year; however, applications will only be reviewed by members of the CAS Internship Scholarship Program committee during two scheduled meetings: the end of the third week of the Fall and Spring semesters.

Students must submit their related original receipts to CAS Dean’s office for reimbursement.

Eligibility

Students must be enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences full-time with either Junior or Senior standing and an overall GPA of 2.75 to be eligible for this award. Applications can be submitted for an internship that occurs within 12 months of the application deadline.  Students must be registered for the internship class before applying for the scholarship.

Applying for the Internship Scholarship Program

Applicants should:

• Secure an internship and register to receive credit for it with your department.
• Obtain a letter from the internship provider on company letterhead stating start/end dates and duties. Include this letter in the application package.
• Submit a completed application form. This form requests student and internship information, a brief personal statement, and an itemized budget.

• Request a letter of support from a faculty mentor, to be sent under separate cover to the Chair of the committee. The letter of support should address the following criteria for the sponsored student: academic achievement, importance of the internship to professional development, and expected outcomes of the internship.

Applications are evaluated based on the following criteria:

1. Importance of the internship as evidenced in the personal statement
2. Impact of internship on student’s career goals and academic development
3. Intellectual quality of student, as evidenced by GPA
4. Availability of other sources of funding or support. In addition, in the event that two applicants are equally ranked, precedence will be given to a student who has not been awarded a Scholarship within the last year.

Stipulations

Students can be awarded the scholarship up to two occasions; however priority will be given to first-time applicants.
