Packing
Clothing
The weather in Oxford at this time of year can be rather unpredictable. Expect for the weather to be warm during the day (70s-80s Fahrenheit), but it can get chilly at night (50s Fahrenheit). Generally, England’s is a wet climate, but often in summer we can have periods of lovely sunny days. So, regarding your day to day clothing, make sure that you have options, and bring an umbrella! For most of the day-to-day activities of the Innovation Intensive at Oxford, plan on dressing to be comfortable but presentable.
Note: There are coin-operated laundry facilities available onsite.
Toiletries, Electronics, and Other Essentials
Aside from the basics that are provided by St. Edmund Hall, you will have to bring most of your necessities with you. Remember that the UK power outlet shape and voltage output differs from the USA. Be sure to research the power requirements and options of your electronics, and bring adaptors/converters with you.
Medicine
Finally, we suggest that you bring a copy of any prescriptions you may have for medicine that you take regularly.
Linens
Your room at St. Edmund Hall will have a towel, sheets for the bed, and some basic toiletries. You should plan on bringing any other necessities with you.
If you forget anything, Oxford is a bustling medium-sized city which has plenty of places to buy anything that you might need.
Communication
We suggest that, if possible, you have your cellphone activated to send and receive calls and texts in England. Alternatively, you can download popular wi-fi apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber or Skype. You may also buy an inexpensive pre-paid mobile phone once you have arrived in England.
Currency
England uses GBP (Pounds Sterling) and not Euros. If you wish to use your credit/debit card to pay for purchases or withdraw money, you most likely need to make your bank aware that you will be away.
