Fire Safety Procedures
Report Damaged Equipment:
Fire Doors - Should close completely and automatically.
Exit Signs – Two exits should be lit and visible from all public areas.
Fire Alarms - Horns, bells, and pull stations should be accessible and not vandalized.
Sprinklers – Keep 18” of clearance around heads. Report bent or damaged heads or pipes.
Smoke Detectors – Keep them clear so they can detect smoke when you are asleep, and wake you in time to get out.
Fire Extinguishers – Report empty or vandalized extinguishers.
Emergency Phone Instructions:
- Dial 5321 from any campus phone
- Dial 911 from a private phone
When the Dispatcher answer the phone:
- Give your name. (This is Andrew J. Rider)
- State what building you are calling from. (I’m in the Science Building)
- State the nature of the emergency. (There’s a fire…..)
- Give the specific location if known. (…in Room 208 on the second floor)
- Request the necessary aid for the incident. (We need the fire department and an ambulance. A student is burned)
- State any action taken by you or others. (The professor used a fire extinguisher and we are evacuating the building)
- Give any other pertinent information.
If you have any special knowledge concerning the emergency (e.g., you saw the fire break out, you witnessed the accident etc.), meet the Campus Security Officer/Fire Department/Emergency Medical Services in front of the building upon their arrival.
