Post a Job or Internship on Handshake

Handshake is an online job/internship platform for Rider students and alumni. Handshake allows employers to:

  • Post for free an internship, part time, or full time position and manage applications;
  • Register for upcoming career fairs and events; and
  • Schedule interviews through our On-Campus Interviewing Program

Rider Engaged Learning - Internship & Co-op Program

Rider University’s internship and co-op program actively supports Rider students from all academic departments as they develop professionally and secure meaningful experiential education experiences. We partner with a range of diverse employers as they create, market, hire for, and evaluate their internship or coop programs.

While the number of credits a students can receive for the internship or co-op experience varies desponding upon the academic department, generally an internship is shorter in timeframe than a co-op. For example, an accounting internship is typically 6-8 weeks while an accounting co-op can be up to 6 months in duration.

To determine how many credits a student may be able to receive for your organization’s opportunity, please contact Karl Craft, Employer Relations Coordinator, at 609-896-5000 (x7488) or via email at [email protected].

Post your internship or co-op on Rider’s online job management platform. New employers, please follow the steps to create a new account. For additional information on starting an internship/co-op program or recruiting at Rider, please contact Karl Craft, Employer Relations Coordinator, at 609-896-5000 (x7488) or via email at [email protected].

Recommended posting deadlines:

Internships

  • Fall: Post by July 15th; Extend offers by August 20th
  • Spring: Post by September 1st; Extend offers by November 15th
  • Summer: Post by January 1st; Extend offers by March 30th

Co-ops

  • Fall: Post by January 1st; Extend by March 30th
  • Spring: Post by September 1st; Extend by November 15th

Students are required to have an assigned supervisor throughout the duration of their internship or co-op. Supervisors are expected to serve as a mentor to the student and provide necessary on the job training.

Considerations about compensation:

  • For-profit organization: A stipend or hourly wage is common, and in many fields like accounting, finance, and information systems it is the norm. In fact, students majoring in these fields are in demand and often choose between multiple internship offers.
NOTE: From employers surveyed, the following salary ranges have been reported for Rider University student interns:

    1. Accounting / Finance: $18 - $25/hr

    2. Business: $15 - $25/hr

    3. Liberal Arts: $12 - $25/hr

  • Not-for-profit organization: A small stipend, travel expenses and substantial internship experience for academic credit is encouraged if you cannot pay an hourly wage.

  • Academic credit for internships or co-ops: Employers are also encouraged to offer experience adequate for a student to obtain academic credit. To determine what the experience entails, please contact Karl Craft, Employer Relations Coordinator, at 609-896-5000 (x7488) or via email at [email protected].

Employer Networking & Information Sessions

Scheduling a Networking Event or Information Session is a great opportunity for an employer to educate Rider students about their organization, gain more visibility on campus and promote internships, coops and/or job opportunities. These programs often take place prior to on campus interview dates. To reserve a room for your information session, please contact Karl Craft, Employer Relations Coordinator, at 609-896-5000 (x7488) or via email at [email protected]. There are several resources to promote your organization including presenting information through the annual Rider Career Guide; promoting information via our social media sites including and traditional promotion via Rider’s radio station 107.7 The Bronc.

Career Fairs

Rider hosts various career fairs throughout the academic year including the Fall Career Fair, Spring Career Fair, Education Career Fair and NFP & Government Career Fair. The Fall and Spring Career Fairs feature organizations from many domains including accounting, advertising, consumer packaged goods, finance, media, marketing, publishing and more! This event offers employers a unique opportunity to promote internships and full time positions exclusively to Rider students and alumni.

On-Campus Interviewing (OCI) Program

A very effective way to recruit Rider University high caliber students from a variety of disciplines is to take advantage of the OCI Program. This allows employers to maximize their recruiting efforts by accommodating the busy academic schedules of students and hosting interviews in the Career Suite on campus. Rider’s OCI program is a 100% pre-select system, so you only choose those candidates whom you want to interview on campus. The process typically takes   4-6 weeks to complete from posting your open position(s) to the interview day(s). We can accommodate those employers who are trying to fill an opening quickly by modifying our standard timeframe and offering customized solutions to meet your recruiting needs.

The following are specifics about Rider’s OCI Program:

  • Interview Schedule Options: Interviews are typically conducted in 30 minute sessions. Other options, including 45 and 60 minute interview times and varied start and end times, are available and can be arranged as needed.
  • Deadlines: Interview dates cannot be honored unless all job descriptions are received and candidates are selected by the stated deadlines. If you miss these deadlines, you may need to change the date of your recruiting visit.
  • Job Descriptions: Students are made aware of your organization, positions and interview dates through your job descriptions. It is critical that your descriptions be informative, but succinct.
  • Citizenship Requirements: In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), interviews will be made available to interested students who are authorized to work full-time in the U.S. regardless of their citizenship status, unless U.S. citizenship is legally required. If citizenship is legally required for your organization, please indicate on your job description.
  • International Students: We have many international students on our campus. If your organization is interested in hiring internationals students for experiential learning opportunities, please indicate on your job description.

To get started, please contact Karl Craft, Employer Relations Coordinator, at 609-896-5000 (x7488) or via email at [email protected].

Logistics: The Interview Day

  • Parking: Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your first interview, because parking may be limited. The Career Office suite is located in the Bart Luedeke Center, room 237.  Please feel free to park in visitor parking upon your arrival to campus.
  • Meeting Students:  Upon arrival, you will be greeted and briefed by a Career Office staff member and escorted to your interview room. Meet students in the reception area.
  • Business Cards: Please be sure to bring a supply of business cards for the interview day.
  • Food and Beverages: A member of Career Services staff will provide lunch vouchers to all recruiting employers.  Feel free to enjoy lunch in the Faculty Dining room.  Please help yourself to complimentary coffee, tea and water in the kitchen area of our office.
  • Staying on Schedule:  Please make every effort to stay on schedule. Keep in mind that students have classes and work commitments and may not be able to stay beyond the interview time period.
  • Resumes: We can provide copies of students resumes on request.  Please inform of us of this request at least one week prior to your OCI date by contacting Karl Craft, Employer Relations Coordinator, at 609-896-5000 (x7488) or via email at [email protected].

Making an Offer

Thank you for your interest in hiring a Rider student(s).  Below are some guideline regarding student offer acceptance deadlines.

Type of Offer Student Response Due
Full-time offer after summer internship November 15
Internship or full-time offer during fall recruiting for upcoming summer start date Minimum of 2 weeks or until November 15, whichever is later
Full-time offer on or after January 1 Minimum of 2 weeks
Spring semester for summer internships or co-ops Minimum of 2 weeks or until March 30, whichever is later
  • Offer Acceptance: Once a student accepts a full time, internship or coop offer to join your organization, we strongly encourage you to inform our office by contacting Karl Craft, Employer Relations Coordinator, at 609-896-5000 (x7488) or via email at [email protected]. After you have notified us that a student has accepted an offer for a full-time position, they are no longer eligible to participate in on-campus interviewing opportunities. If a student reneges on an offer, please inform us immediately so that we may take appropriate action.
  • Offer Extension Considerations: At times, our students will make requests for extensions beyond these deadlines. We hope that you will honor these requests as an act of good will. This allows students adequate time to explore other opportunities and seek appropriate counsel to ensure that they are making the best possible decision.
  • Rider’s Renege Policy: Rider Career Services prohibits the acceptance of multiple offers by our students. We strongly discourage students from accepting an offer from an organization and later reneging or declining the offer.
