The men had three major award winners

The Rider University men's swimming and diving team captured its ninth straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship on Saturday, Feb. 15. The four-day 2020 MAAC Championships took place from Feb. 12-15 at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Broncs finished in first-place overall in the team standings with 725.5 points. Marist was second with 544 points.
On the fourth day of action, Rider won six medals.
- Senior Justin Carey brought home a gold medal in the 100 free with a first-place time of 44.00 in the finals.
- Sophomore Kyle Iorizzo won a gold medal in the 1,650 free with a first-place time of 15:21.89 in the finals.
- Senior Cole May earned a silver medal in the 200 fly with a second-place time of 1:48.86 in the finals.
- Freshman Lucas Racevicius earned a bronze medal in the 200 back with a third-place time of 1:47.29 in the finals.
- Junior Dillon Walles was dominant on the boards once again for the Broncs. He won a gold medal in the 1M with a first-place score of 303.80 in the finals.
- The Rider 400 free relay quartet of Racevicius, Matt Lequang, Joe Gewartowski and Carey put an exclamation point on the MAAC Championships by winning a gold medal with a first-place time of 2:58.71.
Rider had a handful of major-award winners on Saturday. Head Coach Steve Fletcher was named the MAAC Men's Coach of the Year and Head Diving Coach Kristen Simms was tabbed as the MAAC Diving Coach of the Year.
Justin Carey being was honored as the Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer, Dillon Walles was the Most Outstanding Diver and freshman Matt Lequang was the Men's Swimming Rookie of the Meet.
