Find your path
Rider recognizes careers don’t follow a single path. Our post-baccalaureate teacher certification programs are designed for career changers as well as recent college graduates who have not completed a formal teacher preparation program. Students in our programs benefit from small class sizes, hands-on experiences and supportive faculty. Our full and part-time options are flexible and affordable. We also offer a 2-year NJ Alternate Route program for students already on their way to a career in teaching. Credits from the Post-Baccalaureate and NJ Alternate Route certification programs can be applied to the Master of Arts in Teaching degree.
Which program is right for you?
Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification
This program is for individuals who are interested in teaching, and have completed at least a bachelor’s degree. Those who are interested in secondary education should have completed coursework in a specific content area, such as Biology, English, or Social Studies, whereas those interested in teaching in an Elementary or Preschool setting should have a background in liberal arts. The program is offered in two formats: full-time and part-time.
2-year NJ Alternate Route Teaching Certification
This program is for individuals who have obtained a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) through the NJ Department of Education, have attended a 50-hour pre-professional CE program, and have been hired as a full-time teacher by a New Jersey public school based on their CE. The school district must then agree to enroll the individual in Rider’s 2-year Alternate Route program as part of the Provisional Teacher Process.
