A beautiful new edition (2001) prepared by Peter D. Wright and Lois Laverty is available on rental. The funds generated from royalties and rental fees go to the Warren Martin Library Endowment Fund that supports special projects and the purchase of materials for Talbott Library.
Warren Martin (1916-1982), a Westminster Choir College graduate and longtime faculty member, wrote “Cinderella” for the annual May Day Celebration. It was never intended to be staged. Martin insisted that the work be sung “oratorio style”, that is, with the singers in a row across the front of the stage, facing forward, not playing to or looking at each other. Adhering to his advice does indeed make for greater hilarity, since there is nothing to distract from the humor inherent in the music and lyrics. If you would like to see a score, you can request one from us on inter-library loan from your local library. Just tell them that it is OCLC 52615728 and they will know what to do. That way you can examine the score but won’t have to wrap a package and pay postage.
After assessing the score, you will have a better idea about the suitability of the work for your ensemble. We can also provide a recording of a 1956 performance featuring Warren Martin ($25, or $20 if sent together with score). If you wish to perform the work, fill out the Application Form. Upon receipt of your application, we will provide a complete fee quote. The rental period is 90 days; an extended rental period can be arranged for an additional fee.
Fee schedule:
$200 rental + $25 shipping (shipping fee waived for Westminster alumni)
+ 10% of anticipated income (royalties)
Non-commercial recordings with limited distribution may be made for a $100 fee.
