Number of internship options in history that were open to Jason. "The professors at Rider are so connected in their fields and they’re willing to tap into them,” he says. “Those kinds of professional relationships really make a difference for students."
"I was undecided about my major and Rider really encouraged me to feel comfortable about exploring my options. The University caters to undecided students better than any other school I visited — and it has a great reputation," Jason said. "As a student, I took advantage of opportunities like testing my interests through my core classes, talking with my professors and spending time with counselors in the Career Center. In the end, I decided to major in History — and it was the perfect choice."
People ask what you can do with a history major; I tell them — everything! The critical thinking, writing and presentation skills I developed at Rider prepared me for virtually any job.

Rider's impact on Jason's success
Dr. Joseph Gowaskie helped Jason secure an internship at the National Guard Militia Museum. "I only had to mention that I was a Rider student, and the museum director welcomed me with open arms," Jason said.
Jason credits Rider and the History department for helping him secure his internship, which in turn prepared him to land his first job at New York City’s Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. "I love 20th-century American and military history — and I always wanted to work at a museum — so working on the Intrepid is my dream job," says Jason. "I graduated in May and was hired in July."
Continued success
In his current role, Jason works with hotel staff throughout the New York City region, familiarizing them with the diverse programs the Intrepid offers visiting guests and their families. "I started off learning how to effectively tell the story of the museum as a tour guide," Jason said. "Now I’m learning how to effectively sell the museum externally. It’s a great introduction to the operations side of museum work, which is important for career growth."
