Rider University was listed in The Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges: 2025 Edition. This marks the 15th consecutive year that the University has been recognized as a leader in sustainability practices.
The annual guide is a resource for college applicants who are interested in attending schools that foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
"We are delighted to recommend Rider University to students who want their ‘best-fit’ college to also be a 'green' one," says Rob Franek, The Princeton Review's editor-in-chief. “Rider, which offers excellent academics, also demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability in its campus programs, policies and practices.”
The Princeton Review scores institutions using a green rating system from 60-99. The scores provide “a comprehensive measure of a school's performance as an environmentally aware and prepared institution.” Rider received a score of 92.
Rider’s eco-friendly efforts are led by the Office of Sustainability in collaboration with Facilities Management. Some of the University’s major green initiatives include an on-campus Trigen power plant, a 740-kilowatt solar array, a SEED food waste digester in Daly Dining Hall, 12 electric vehicle charging stations throughout campus and two LEED-certified buildings. The University has also adopted an energy master plan and a plan to become carbon neutral by 2050.
Additionally, the Office of Sustainability, along with its student Eco-Reps, offers a number of activities and initiatives throughout the year to educate the Rider community about living sustainably. They also organize events and programs to actively engage the community, both on-campus and off, in environmentally friendly practices.
