Dear Rider University Community,
I would like to provide some important updates on the presidential search process. First, I want to thank the entire Rider community for your active participation in the recent listening sessions. Along with our search executive, we engaged with over 130 faculty, staff, students and leaders from across the University to understand the qualities you believe are most important for Rider’s next president.
While each group offered unique insights, two clear themes emerged: a deep love and passion for Rider, and a shared optimism for the future. Though there are areas for improvement, this community’s spirit will undoubtedly be attractive to potential candidates.
For those who were unable to attend a listening session, you can still share your input. Please use the link in your email to access a survey hosted by Storbeck Search.
The Board of Trustees met earlier this week, and I want to update you on the decisions that have been made.
First, the Board discussed the composition of the Presidential Search Committee. In addition to my role as chair, the committee will consist of six other trustees, two faculty members, two members of the President’s cabinet, a staff member and a student. Joan Mazzotti, our current Chair of the Board, will be an ex officio, non-voting member of the committee.
The board also established a Presidential Transition Committee to manage all aspects and complexities related to a leadership change. Joan Mazzotti will lead the committee. She will be joined by Board Vice-chairs Jim Bush and Michele Powers, as well as myself. The committee’s top priority is ensuring a smooth and seamless transition to the next president.
Over the next two weeks, we will collaborate with University leadership to select individuals for the search committee positions. Serving on this committee will require a significant time commitment and the ability to think strategically about the University’s present and future needs.
As for next steps, you can expect to hear from me again in about two weeks with the names of the individuals appointed to the search committee.
Many thanks to all of you for the support in this important work for our University.
Sincerely,
Joe McDougall
Chair of the Presidential Search Committee
