University joins the select members of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate
by Adam Grybowski
Rider University was one of seven new institutions to be accepted as new members of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) Consortium.
In being accepted, Rider joins more than 100 current institution members that work toward redesigning professional practice preparation in education for the improvement of pre-kindergarten through higher education and the organizations that support it.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to engage with other college and universities and contribute our knowledge and expertise to help best prepare the next generation of educational leaders at the highest levels,” says Dr. Sharon Sherman, dean of Rider’s College of Education and Human Services.
New members were chosen through an application process and evaluated by a membership committee composed of leaders of current CPED institution members. Based on the application and support materials of each of these new institution members, CPED anticipates that adding these institutions to the Consortium will add a value that will push CPED’s collective work even farther.
Rider announced its Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership in March 2017 and began matriculating candidates the following July. It is the first post-master’s degree in the school’s history. The hybrid program includes coursework both on campus and online, including two summer residencies, and is designed to be completed in three years.
"The invitation to CPED is a reflection of the quality of our program," says Dr. Leonard R. Goduto, associate professor and director of the Rider's Ed.D. Program in Educational Leadership. "It is an honor to be among the institutions that are a part of this organization and are dedicated to this important work."
CPED hosts two bi-annual convenings that take place at member institutions in June and October of each year. New institution members are invited to attend the upcoming CPED Convening at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., from June 13-15. This convening’s theme is Evidence of Impact: Measuring Change and Changing our Measures, which will offer new institution members an opportunity to explore various definitions and theories of impact, the types of and criteria for evidence gathered to evaluate impact, and impact evaluation models and tools currently being used to measure change in Ed.D. students, member programs and broader communities.
The convening will also allow new members will meet current CPED members who have experience with organizational issues related to the process of redesigning the Ed.D.
Other new members announced in April alongside Rider by the CPED Board of Directors are Austin Peay State University, Central Connecticut State University, Hamline University, Plymouth State University, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and the University of West Florida.
