Stephen Purdy is currently on Musical Theatre faculty at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, an Artist-In-Residence at the Musical Theatre Academy of London, and is the founder and principal coach at the New York Vocal Coaching Studio. In the Fall of 2016 Stephen is set to become the head of the American Musical Theatre Academy of New York, a new conservatory for burgeoning Musical Theatre Artists (www.theamta.com). His students have been cast in the Broadway and touring companies of nearly every major Broadway musical of the last 15 years (including THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, LES MISERABLES, WICKED, KINKY BOOTS, BILLY ELLIOT, MAMMA MIA, IN THE HEIGHTS, HAIRSPRAY, THE LION KING, and many others) and are singing on concert stages worldwide. As a guest artist/instructor, he has taught extensively both nationally and internationally, most notably in China, Korea, and throughout Europe. He is active as a coach and musical director annually for The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Camp Broadway, and The National High School Musical Theatre Awards. He is the vocal instructor for the very popular 'Dancer's Voice' series in New York taught in tandem with casting personnel from Broadway's leading casting offices including Telsey and Company, Duncan Stewart, Tara Rubin, and others. Prior to his work as a teacher and coach, Stephen conducted and played for the Broadway and touring companies of many popular Broadway and off-Broadway musicals including THE FULL MONTY, PETER PAN (Cathy Rigby), THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, FRANKENSTEIN (Cast Album), and THE FANTASTICKS. He spent five years in Europe with 42nd STREET, A CHORUS LINE, and GREASE, including a year in Paris. American regional theatre credits include five years as resident Musical Director at Ogunquit, Westchester Broadway Theatre (19 shows), Alliance (Atlanta), Arena Stage, Helen Hayes, The York, Sacramento Music Circus, North Shore, Kansas City Starlight, Playwright's Horizons. Stephen holds a Master's Degree in'Vocal'Pedagogy from Westminster and is the author of 'Musical Theatre Song: Selection, Preparation and Presentation for the Modern Performer' to be published and released by Bloomsbury in February 2016.
