Biography
Jay Stern has directed four feature films and more than 30 short films which have screened across the US, Canada, and Europe. His latest feature film Dead Storage is currently in development.
Jay is a founder, producer, and co-host of the Iron Mule Short Comedy Screening Series, which has been screening monthly since April, 2002.
Jay is also a theater director, specializing both in new and classical work. He has directed and produced theater productions in New York, Chicago, Italy, and Greece. He is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and a founder of the World Wide Lab, an international festival of director-driven work developed at the Watermill Center.
Jay holds an PhD in Media Philosophy from the European Graduate School, a BA in Writing from Columbia University, and a Certificate of Filmmaking from Vancouver Film School. He has studied with Terry Southern, Peter Greenaway, John Waters, Claude Lanzmann, Jacques Derrida, Angela Davis, Volker Schlöndorff, and Agnes Varda.
