Biography
Dr. Heeyoung Kim (she/her/hers) is Rider’s Chief Diversity Officer & Director of the Teaching and Learning Center. Dr. Kim leads the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, and the Teaching and Learning Center. She is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Information Systems & Supply Chain Management, where she teaches statistics and analytic courses in both online and face-to-face formats.
Formerly, she served as Director of Faculty Development in the Teaching and Learning Center where she focused on programming and support for equitable and inclusive teaching practices. As the TLC’s Director, Dr. Kim champions teaching at Rider, driving campus conversations about advocating for a strong culture of reflective, inclusive, and evidence-based teaching. She developed and offered programs inviting faculty to explore pedagogical questions and innovations, and foster community centered around reflective, inclusive teaching.
Dr. Kim is an active member of the Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network, the national organization of teaching centers. Since joining the POD Network in 2014, Dr. Kim has held leadership roles such as the chair of the Small Centers & Small College’s Special Interest Group and the Conference Committee, and a leader of the Affinity Group and AAPI group.
Dr. Kim holds a Ph.D. in instructional systems from Penn State University and master’s degree from Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea.
Her core philosophy is fully grounded in her own educational and professional experience, pedagogical successes, weaknesses, and self-awareness as a first-generation college student. She will continue to use her role to make Rider as accessible, inclusive, and transparent as possible for students so that they are willing and excited to learn.
