Ellen Fisher-Deerberg is the principal flutist of the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, a substitute with the Bay Atlantic Symphony, and was a founding member of the flute quartet, The Lyra Ensemble. Ellen joined the faculty of Westminster Conservatory in 2005, and prior to relocating to New Jersey she was on the faculty of the Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music (23 years) and the Music School of Delaware (10 years), as well as maintaining a private studio in her home.
As a concert artist, Ellen has been featured in numerous recitals as part of the Westminster Conservatory faculty concert series. As a former member of the Lyra Ensemble, Ellen was invited to perform at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair, the NJ Flute Society Flute Fair, Philadelphia Flute Society concerts, and was selected as national finalist in the Astral Artists competition. Ellen has performed at the National Flute Association annual convention as a guest artist with the flute quartet Flutes de Salon, and has been a collaborative artist on CD’s, both classical and jazz. Ms. Deerberg performs with a wide variety of accompanists, from piano and harp, to classical guitar and guzheng.
Ms. Deerberg graduated from Temple University where she majored in music performance and studied with the former principal flutist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Murray Panitz. She is a board member of the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, and is the director of their annual concerto competition. Ellen is also a member of the Music Teachers National Association, and the American Federation of Musicians.
In her spare time, Ellen enjoys cooking, reading, shopping with her daughter, and snuggling with the family cat.
