Jennifer Garr is the Early Childhood Department Head at Westminster Conservatory and teaches classes for young children both on campus and at several off-campus outreach sites She began her teaching career as an elementary music specialist in the school district of the Chathams, where she was honored with the Morris County Award for Outstanding Teaching. Before joining the faculty at Westminster in 2005, Mrs. Garr was on the faculty of Peabody Preparatory, the community music school of Johns Hopkins University. In addition to teaching on the early childhood faculty, Mrs. Garr served as the co-coordinator of the Annapolis campus, taught as part of an outreach program in the Baltimore City Public Schools, and co-authored a piano method for young children entitled Keyboard Explorations. She holds a Bachelor’s of Music Education degree from Ithaca College with a major in voice and a minor in piano. She has participated in continuing studies at both Peabody Conservatory and Westminster Choir College; studied Arts Integration at the Lincoln Center Institute, Juilliard School; and obtained training in the methods of Orff-Schulwerk, Dalcroze, and Edwin Gordon’s Music Learning Theory. In addition to her responsibilities at Westminster, Mrs. Garr is an organist and a frequent soloist at her church in Freehold, NJ.
