Students move in amid a flurry of campus activities
As is the tradition at Rider, a group of volunteers called Bronc Buddies have been helping first-year students move their belongings onto campus for Move In Day during this first weekend of September. This year, 900 new students join the Rider family, hailing from states as far away as Alaska, California and Texas and many international students who hail China, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Russia and other countries. In keeping with the national trend, a larger percentage of new students are women while a large proportion of the new class hails from the Garden State.
After students get settled in, they and their families are invited to attend the New Student and Family Food Fest on Sunday, starting at 11 a.m. on the campus mall, where lunch will be served and 107.7 The Bronc will broadcast. Afterwards, President Gregory G. Dell’Omo, Associate Dean of Freshmen Ira Mayo, and other Rider administrators will formally welcome new students and families to the Rider community in a welcome ceremony in the Student Recreation Center. In the evening, students will have the chance to dine with the president and representatives of the Student Government Association, among other events.
On Monday, Sept. 7, their first full day on campus, students can get a taste of many of the ways they can become involved at Rider. During a workshop, students can peruse 110 student clubs and organizations. Other events include Rider Rumble and comedian Butch Bradley.
Events on Tuesday, Sept. 8, begin with New Student Convocation and luncheon, which commemorates students’ start to their academic career. In the afternoon, a carnival will pop up on campus. RecFest! will include food trucks, rides, a climbing ock wall and music. The days concludes with the 19th Annual New Student Talent Show, with prizes for the winners.
Day and evening classes begin Wednesday, Sept. 9.
