Bronx-born rapper will be supported by Ally Brooke on Sept. 20
by Adam Grybowski
A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, whose gold-certified second album, Hoodie SZN, was streamed more than 83 million times in the first week of its release, will headline Rider's annual fall concert on Sept. 20.
The Bronx-bred rapper broke out after releasing his debut mixtape, Artist, in 2016. The Bigger Artist, his debut studio album, followed in 2017 and featured guest appearances by Chris Brown, Trey Songz, PnB Rock and others. "Drowning," the platinum-certified lead single, features Kodak Black.
That dramatic rise led XXL to dub A Boogie as “one of the hottest and newest up-and-comers in hip-hop” and The New York Times to name him as one “the most promising young rappers the city has produced in some time.”
The concert, which takes place on Sept. 20 with doors opening at 7:30 p.m., is open to Rider students only. Tickets are free with a Rider ID, and students must have their ID and ticket to gain entry. The event is presented by the Student Entertainment Council.
Rider's annual fall concert has a long tradition of bringing artists on the cusp of worldwide fame to the University. Recently, Big Sean, Travis Scott, PnB Rock and Tinahse have all wowed students with authentic concert experiences inside the Student Recreation Center and elsewhere on campus. Going back decades, other artists appearing at Rider have included The Beach Boys, Billy Joel and Destiny's Child.
"The fall concert is always a highlight of the fall semester for students, and we've been extremely fortunate in landing unbelievable acts for them to see right on campus," says Associate Dean of Campus Life Nick Barbati.
Ally Brooke, whose new single, "Lips Don't Lie," features A Boogie, will open the show. Brooke was best known as the vocalist of the award-winning multi-platinum group Fifth Harmony before pursuing a solo project. In 2019, she was nominated for Best Solo Breakout at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
