Dear alumni and friends of Rider University,
The spring issue of Rider magazine was created in a world much different than the one we are currently living in.
We typically begin working on the magazine, which is published twice a year, months in advance. As the current issue of Rider magazine was set to go to press, the coronavirus outbreak was taking hold in the U.S., setting in motion a series of decisions that warped life as we know into something entirely new and different.
In light of this once-in-a-generation crisis, and the very real and painful ways it was affecting all of us, we had to make difficult decisions about how, and if, to share the magazine. Ultimately, we chose to withhold printing the magazine and instead share it strictly online. Doing so allowed us to exercise more precise control over how to share these stories in a context that remains as unpredictable as a dog without a leash.
I will admit that I have a sentimental attachment to print magazines and believe strongly in their unique power to connect with readers. I’m extremely sorry that this issue will not be realized in paper and ink as it was intended. However, I’m grateful that these stories — posted at rider.edu/ridermagazine — will still be available for readers to enjoy.
Since the magazine was produced, the coronavirus has become one of the most important stories of our lifetimes. Its ending has yet to be written, and the way we get from here to there will have profound implications not only for Rider University but the global society in which our community lives. We are committed to telling that story and sharing it with you in future issues of the magazine.
Thank you for reading and your continued support.
Sincerely,
Adam Grybowski
