Program overview

Premedical studies is not a major: it is a focused course of study designed to keep your coursework on track so you are eligible for admission to a medical, dental, veterinary or other health-related professions school of your choice. You will work closely with the Premedical Studies advisor to develop a plan of study that meets your educational goals.

This program is open to undergraduates and post-baccalaureate students.

Program requirements

Rider’s premedical program curriculum is highly individualized. In addition to basic core prerequisites, the program offers the opportunity to take courses in advanced biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and behavioral neurosciences to enhance students' academic profiles and to help them prepare to succeed in rigorous professional or graduate school curricula.

Prescribe your future

Our emphasis on early laboratory and fieldwork experiences helps to ensure you’ll meet certain requirements for admission into medical programs. Benefit from Rider’s intensive internship courses with our partnering health organizations including the Capital Health Systems, collaborate with faculty on paid research opportunities and take advantage of external internship opportunities.

Post-baccalaureate program overview

Rider University offers students with baccalaureate degrees the opportunity to take the undergraduate science course prerequisites for medical, dental, veterinary or graduate school. Although not a masters degree program, post baccalaureate students receive advising and academic support from Rider's Premedical Studies Committee. Additionally, students take advantage of the Continuing Education part-time rate regardless of the number of credits taken per semester. Financial aid may be available.

To be eligible for status as a post-baccalaureate Premedical student

You must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and you must have a 3.25 cumulative GPA in all completed undergraduate work.
